Republican nominee Bo French and state Rep. Jon Rosenthal, D-Houston, are vying for a seat on Texas’s Railroad Commission, the body responsible for regulating Texas’ oil and gas industry. The UT System endowment is largely funded by investments in Texas’ oil and gas industry. Either candidate’s victory would still result in a Republican majority on the commission as the other two members are Republicans.
The race drew scrutiny after French made racist comments about the UT student section at the football game against Ohio State.
These results are not complete and early results tend to favor Democrats.
