Democrat Josh Shapiro won reelection Tuesday as governor of Pennsylvania, defeating Republican Stacy Garrity.
Shapiro was seeking a second term.
He previously served two terms as state attorney general and he’s considered a potential contender for the White House in 2028.
In the days leading up to the election, the governor campaigned on a platform of “getting sh*t done,” a quote he popularized while speaking at the site of a collapse on I-95 in Philadelphia after working with PennDOT to have the area repaired.
Along with this messaging, Shapiro touted that his office invested “more in public education than ever before, hired hundreds of new law enforcement officers, created thousands of new jobs, and put money back in people’s pockets.”
For the Republican challenger, Garrity campaigned on her history of service to the community — she served in the military for two decades and has been the state treasurer since 2020.
She also leaned into messaging on the campaign trail to highlight her efforts to be a “strong ally” of Republican President Donald Trump.
