WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The Nir Family YMCA is inviting community members to its ‘Safety Around Water’ program this week.

The free program is open to children ages 3 to 14, who will have the opportunity to learn essential water safety skills, build confidence and learn basic swimming techniques to prevent drowning from trained YMCA instructors.

“Living in coastal North Carolina means our children are constantly around beaches, pools, and natural waterways,” said Lindsey Hays, Aquatics Director for the Nir Family YMCA. “Teaching water safety is a critical, life-saving necessity. This program equips kids with the skills they need to stay safe, while giving parents peace of mind.”

The program is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
